D2 TOOL STEEL SUPPLIER

D2 is one of the most well-known tool steels due to its extreme wear-resistant properties and toughness. These properties combined limit tool failure through breaking, chipping, cracking or premature wear. This grade provides an edge that will stay sharp for a long time.

 

Supplied Condition:

D2 steel supplied in the soft annealed condition to max. 255 HB.

We bandsaw cut D2 plates, rounds, flats and squares to your requirements.

D2 Tool Steel Chemical Composition (%):

C CR Mo V
1,55 12,00 0,80 0,90

  • D2 Tool Steel Properties

  • Air-hardening, 12% chrome steel
  • Composition & properties are close to stainless steel
  • High volume of hard carbides (C, Cr) → High levels of wear resistance & toughness
  • Excellent dimensional stability & high compressive strength
  • Secondary hardening properties → Good base material for coating & nitriding

820 - 850 °C furnace max. 255 HB

Stress Relief Annealing

Temperature Cooling
600 - 650°C furnace

Hardening D2 Tool Steel

Temperature Cooling Tempering
1000 - 1030 °C oil, pressure gas (N²), air or hot bath 500 - 550 °C see tempering diagram, usually < 300°C
1040 - 1080 °C oil, pressure gas (N²), air or hot bath 500 - 550 °C see tempering diagram, usually < 480°C
