H13 TOOL STEEL SUPPLIERS
Steel H13 is tough, versatile and the most used tool steel for hot work applications. This grade can also be used in cold work applications.
Supplied Condition:
We supply H13 hot work tool steel in the soft annealed condition to max. 229 HB.
Rounds can be bandsaw cut to your requirements.
Also available in wide plates & flats.
Also available in the EFS/ESR condition where better properties are required
H13 Tool Steel Chemical Composition (%):
C | Cr | Mo | V |
0,40 | 5,30 | 1,40 | 1,00 |
-
H13 Tool Steel Properties
- Chromium-molybdenum, air-hardening steel
- High strength at elevated temperatures
- High wear resistance but limited water-cooling possibilities
- Good toughness, thermal conductivity and heat resistance to cracking/thermal fatigue
- Can also be used in cold work applications
- Excellent “polishability”
Applications of H13 Tool Steel:
H13 steel is particularly suitable for hot forming tools, where thermal properties and resistance to heat checking is key:
- Extrusion tools/extrusion dies
- Forging dies/hot forging dies
- Pressure casting tools
- Hot shear knives
- Tools for the plastic industry
- Hot chisels
- Pressure pads
- Backer blocks
- Extrusion stems and rams
- Blanking and bending tools
- Hot heading tools
Soft Annealing
Temperature | Cooling | Hardness |
600 - 650°C | furnace | max. 229 HB |
Stress Relief Annealing
Temperature | Cooling |
600 - 650°C | furnace |
Hardening
Temperature | Cooling | Tempering |
1020 - 1060°C | oil, pressure gas (N²), air or hot bath 500 - 550°C | see PDF diagram |
