Steel

High–speed steel (HSS) are tool steels, again alloyed with various combinations of elements. These steels gain their properties from the addition of tungsten, molybdenum & cobalt.

High-speed steel is commonly used for high-speed cutting applications, for example in power-saw blades and drill bits, they are superior to the older high carbon steels in that they can withstand higher temperatures without losing their hardness. These properties allow these steels to cut faster than high carbon steels, hence the name high-speed steel.
