Tool Steel

Plastic mould tool steels have been developed for applications which are subject to wear, elevated temperatures and pressure. With this tooling, wear can be corrosive, abrasive or adhesive.

Plastic Mould Properties

  • Good machinability
  • Dimensional stability during heat treatment
  • Polishability
  • Nitrideability
  • High compressive strength
  • High corrosion resistance – only on certain grades

Improved corrosion resistance – moulding chemically aggressive plastics 1.2083, 1.2316 should be considered.

Some plastic mould steels are delivered in a pre-hardened condition.

Applications

  • Plastic blow mould tools
  • Injection moulding tools
  • Pressing tools
  • Die holders
  • Bolsters
  • Die-casting mould tools
  • Extrusion tools
